How it All Began

For years, it seems, I've carried with me from home to home, state to state, a collection of cookbooks, magazines, newspaper clippings, etc. The pile grew and grew, and I finally got to the point where I knew something needed to be done. I mean, it gets kind of ridiculous when you realize half your possessions are cooking magazines. So, in a quest for the perfect gift, I came up with the idea of putting together my own cookbook, taking clippings from everything saved, and requesting family members and a few friends to submit me their favorites as well.

After three months of sifting through the piles of food magazines spanning a collection of 11 years, selecting the most enticing and mouth-watering recipes, adding the family and friend's selections, and then categorizing and typing into a new format, I put together Wesley's Family Cookbook. Most recipes were chosen for their simplicity in preparation, as well as for the ease in acquiring their ingredients.

It was a "hit" with those who received it and for those that didn't, there have been constant requests to do it again. In this day and age of everything electronic, I thought why not just add it to my website and let everybody have access to the fantastic recipes and informative stories that go with them.

My tastes are reflected in every recipe, with a definite lean towards the hot & spicy, as that is what I am more accustomed to, being brought up in El Paso, Texas. The original cookbook included color-paged sections, such as Breads, Appetizers, Seafood, and Lemon. Of course, a cookbook couldn't be complete without oodles of desserts, and that means lots of cherry and chocolate dishes (my favorites)!!!

Accompanying the recipes you see posted here, are special stories reflecting the recipe itself or the person who submitted that particular recipe. I believe it added more of a personal feel to the project and I intend to incorporate more of those stories in this online version.
