Do I Know You?
She shows signs of her old self at times, but then it fades. This week, I have been Scott, Jose, Bob, Luis, and Wesley. She used to be a lot better at remembering my name, but that time has passed. It is frustrating, to say the least, but I deal, as does my cousin, who has been called Stella (my mom), "that girl", and Lety (her actual name). We laugh it off, let her know who we are, what our names are, and then we continue on.
She hates to be alone. The minute one of us leaves the room, she starts calling out "Lety". Leticia, or Lety as some may call her, says she used to love her name, but now she hates it. The constant calling of "Lety, Lety, Lety..." drives her crazy. It drives me crazy, but thankfully that's not my name. Ultimately, one of us will ask her what she needs, and most often her reply is, "nothing...". She just needs to have somebody within eyesight.

She dozes off here and there, which affords us the opportunity to accomplish chores or projects around the house. When she wakes up, sometimes she's in the middle of a conversation with somebody who is not there, and we have to remind her where she is at.
This often leads to her asking for a cup of coffee, or something to eat. "I'm starving..." is a common phrase we hear a lot. For a skinny woman, she eats nonstop, more than either of us, which shows on her latest weigh-in.
She's gained 4 pounds... not a lot, mind you, considering she had been losing a lot of weight during her most recent battle with Covid.
On the occasions we step away from her as she snoozes, always checking on her to see if she has awoken, there are times we have found her in the middle of a conversation in which Lety nor myself are a part of. She is often speaking in a direction with nobody in sight. Whomever she is speaking to does reply, thank goodness, because it would be hard for either one of us to join in at that point.
These conversations seem to leave her in peace, which is our goal day to day. It is stressful enough for her not knowing things she is supposed to know or looking for the proper words to complete a sentence or conversation. So, it's comforting to know she is entertained by what I am certain is an actual ghost, who listens to her, answers her questions, and eases her mind... but my cousin finds it hard to believe that the supernatural is part of these conversations.

Mind you, there have been unexplained incidences on my side of the house that have led me to this assumption. Even my dog Luna, has on occasion, growled at something in my room in the middle of the night! Once, one of the squeaky dog toys squeaked all by itself. Additionally, things have gone missing (9 spoons and other kitchen utensils, along with other personal items) or have been moved to weird places. I have told Lety my suspicions about a ghost being the reason, but she doesn't accept it. Perhaps my aunt knows better!!!
Anyway, who knows who I or Lety will be tomorrow... personally, I'm becoming partial to Jose... or whether the ghost will finally reveal itself to Leticia, but regardless, there will certainly be a new story to tell about my dear Aunt Yolanda.
